Complex (Multi-Species) Biofilms
Duration of study – 6 days
Lead time – 2 weeks
Standard results – Microbiology
Model Utility:
This in vitro test utilized the Modified Robbins Device (MRD) to stimulate the growth of bacteria in a biofilm (cessile) state. The MRD works by using a flow-through system of extremely dilute growth media to encourage bacteria into the biofilm phenotype. Once in this state, it is possible to test surfaces for their ability to prevent attachment or growth of biofilm bacteria and to evaluate the activity of antimicrobial/anti-biofilm actives to destroy existing biofilm colonies.
How The MRD works:
Actual Biofilm Device Set Up (note: In actual operation media flask would be immersed in a heated water bath)
MRD sits in a heated Aluminum block
Secondary Device for Antimicrobial (Anti-biofilm) Solution Testing
